SPOTLIGHT: Quintessentially Yours - Linn B. Halton

Quintessentially Yours
(the sequel to Under The Stars)

Katherine Dale lives her life according to her daily horoscope forecast. Having recently hit forty, Katherine is living with her partner, James Kingman, and their delightful little six-month-old daughter, Leyla. James is an up-and-coming name in astrology and that’s how they met. At a party to celebrate the publication of Katherine’s first novel, James was about to propose when Katherine announced the news that she was expecting a baby. ‘Ask me later, when I can fit into my dream dress’ she’d told him.

Wind forward thirteen months and while there is an engagement ring on Katherine’s finger, James still can’t mention the ‘m’ word. Leyla suffers from colic and won’t settle into any semblance of a routine. The lack of sleep is taking its toll on them all. James is at his wits’ end trying to cope with his increasing workload, while handling a hormonal woman who feels like an abject failure. And then there’s his boss, who has designs – on him!

With feline help from No. 4, plus a little timely advice from old postman Tom and neighbour Ed, can James and Katherine’s love for each other survive all of the challenges that life is throwing at them? Will there ever be time to plan that dream wedding?

This sequel can be read as a standalone novel.

Bristol-born Linn B. Halton lives in the small village of Lydbrook, which nestles on the edge of the Forest of Dean, in the UK. She resides there with her husband and feline with 'catitude'- Mr Tiggs.
Linn began writing in March 2009 and her debut novel was published in February 2011. In a recent interview Linn was asked about genres:

"From a very young age I knew romantic fiction was always going to be my genre. I am, and will always be, madly in love with love! Whether that's love of life, a partner, or the things I'm passionate about.

My stories are about love, life and real relationships - but romance is always the one thing that holds each story together. Often there's a light, psychic touch and I never dreamed I would write drawing upon my personal psychic experiences. But as my interest and understanding in the subject has grown, it is now such a part of my life that it finds its way into my fictional tales. However, what is heartening is that most of my experiences have been uplifting and it's wonderful to know loved ones are around me always. I hope it will make readers stop and wonder 'What if?'

The result is that I get a lot of mail from readers who have had similar experiences and some are sharing theirs for the first time with me. I always feel that's something rather special and for which I'm very grateful."

Love, life and beyond... but it's ALWAYS about the romance!

Linn is published by Choc Lit, HarperImpulse, Endeavour Press and Sapphire Star Publishing.

Linn is also the managing editor of Loveahappyending Lifestyle emagazine.

An Author's Inspiration - Guest Post by Claire Granger

My Inspiration for Kenna’s Reverie

by Claire Granger, author of Kenna's Reverie

When I wrote When Faults Collide, most people (including me!) thought I would take a little break before diving back into another project. It was a really intense project for me, and it carries a powerful message that I really wanted my readers to “get”.

One day I was chatting with my designer and long-time bestie, and she was sort of mocking my taste in smutty books. I commented that it was just a fantasy and would never carry over into the real world. Like, could you imagine if some alpha male fell for a single mom? How would that work out? That would be hilarious!

Thus, Kenna’s Reverie was born.

I decided as I was writing When Faults Collide that all future series would have crossover characters and all be a part of the same “world” even if they are different stories. So I already had a base idea for how to allow the story to play out.

I opted to make it a novella series because I wanted to be able to get it out and to give readers a fun break without taking too much time.

Writing it was genuinely therapy for me. My husband thought I was losing my mind slowly, as I’m snort laughing while writing and would talk to myself and my characters while furiously typing away.

There are some serious undertones (there had to be in order to have characters from the Faultlines series!) but overall it was a fun, witty, and sexy piece meant to bring laughter and light heartedness.

I hope that you will love reading it as much as I loved writing it! :)

Kennas ReverieKenna’s Reverie (Daydreaming #1)
by Claire Granger
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Romantic Comedy
Age category: Adult
Release Date: August 1, 2015

Kenna is a pretty typical single mom. She takes her 5 kids to dance, soccer, and scouts. She just happens to make her living as an erotic book blogger. She has accepted the fact that she will probably always be single, until her dream fantasy man is sitting right in front of her.

Jax likes control. He's never considered love or romance as an option, just as a necessary means to win a woman he's interested in. So when he eyes a beautiful woman at a coffee shop and can't stop thinking about her, he wonders what he has to do to possess her.

This is the hilarious story of two people who in a world of dreams are made for each other, but in reality could not be more incompatible. Will they find a way to make the dreams that live in their fantasies real, or are they destined to live without each other?

Author's Note:
The Daydreaming novella series takes place in the same world as the Faultlines series and while there are many crossover elements, it is not the same story or direct sequel. While readers of that series will enjoy seeing characters in this series, you do not need to read one to read the other because it is not a direct sequel. This series is more erotic in nature, with lots of sexual situations, as well as a rather colorful choice of the English language (read- there's a lot of swearing), so please note that this book is for mature audiences.

Come And Take It - Landon Wallace

Come Take It_Rev 4B.indd

Dancing between past and present, the Alamo comes to life with the story behind a treasure and the search for it in Landon Wallace's debut novel, Come and Take It. A ninety-three year old World War II war hero, Joe Travis, is murdered in his home by two intruders attempting to rob him of a mysterious family legacy—one only Joe Travis thought he knew about. At his grandfather's funeral, Nat Travis is pulled aside by an old friend of Joe's, Sergeant Anthony Ambrose, who enlightens him on some Travis family history and hints at a secret long held by Nat's grandfather. What Nat and his brother's ex-wife, Renee, uncover from there leads them on a dangerous search for answers, one where past and present converge, presenting itself alongside an unlikely romance.

Come and Take It is a wonderfully written story about love, loss, and both the history of a family and a nation. The adventure itself is riveting, but for me, it was the story of Joe the Slave and Landon Wallace's portrayal of Texas' days of yore that hooked me in. The characters are wholly authentic with dialogue that is natural and believable. Despite being fiction, Come and Take It unfolds before you, and even the nasty Kruger becomes a character you want to know more about. Aside from the history and mystery, there is also a love story afoot. With a less skilled writer the taboo attachment might come off as gaudy, but Wallace narrates with such compassion and delicate maneuvering, it is impossible not to root them on entirely. This book ticks all the boxes and is highly recommended to lovers of mystery, action, adventure, history, and romance.

Reviewed for Readers' Favorite.

Game of Scones - Jammy Lannister

y450-293

I received a preview of this book in the Kindle edition and was excited when I first viewed it. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to rate the extremely limited preview provided. The concept and what I saw looks fun, with witty Game of Thrones references thrown even into the recipes (Tyrion's Shortbread calls for 7,800 jars of wildfire), but without more than a handful of pages I can only give it three stars. With the whole book it probably would have been 4-5, but I can't speculate without actually seeing it.

I'd like to thank Net Galley and Orion Publishing for sending me the few pages that they did in exchange for my honest opinion.
